Border Patrol seizes 13 pounds of meth hidden under car’s seats
Border Patrol agents with El Centro Sector arrested a suspected drug smuggler after they found more than 13 pounds of methamphetamine hidden under the seats of his car.
The 31-year-old suspect, a lawfully permitted legal resident of the United States, pulled up to the Highway 86 checkpoint in a Nissan Maxima at about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Border Patrol’s news release.
A Border Patrol canine alerted agents to the suspect’s car so a secondary inspection of the vehicle was ordered.
During the inspection, agents said they found seven packages hidden inside a compartment under the driver and passenger seats of the car. The packages tested positive for methamphetamine, weighing 13.48 pounds with an estimated street value of $47,180.
The suspected drug smuggler is in the DEA’s custody as the investigation continues.
Agents said Since fiscal year 2017, which started Oct. 1, 2016, the El Centro Sector has seized more than 1,109.48 pounds of methamphetamine.
