Suspicious fire damages two Palm Springs businesses
Fire investigators are now calling a fire that damaged two Palm Springs businesses “suspicious.”
It happened in the Uptown Design District of Palm Springs, at Trio Restaurant and Shag, an art gallery, on the 700 block of North Palm Canyon
According to firefighters, they got the call about the fire around 2:20 Wednesday morning. When they got to the scene, they said they saw a car on fire as well as the back of the building. They were able to knock down the blaze in about 13 minutes.
Firefighters say Trio sustained water and smoke damage. Shag had moderate structural damage.
No one was hurt. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
According to restaurant owners, Trio is not opening today.
“Trio’s Trio, so, it’s where Palm Springs eats so we stay pretty steady all summer,” owner Tony Marchese said, “So it’s an inconvenience, obviously.”
The fire left significant damage to Shag.
“Over a hundred thousand dollars of damage in just prints and frame prints and things that we hold for people,” said the owner, Jay Nailor.
