Deputies were called to the home in the 16000 block of Via Corto West in the unincorporated area of Desert Hot Springs after receiving a suspicious circumstances call at about 10:42 p.m., authorities said in a news release. They found the man dead inside the home and now the Central Homicide Unit is looking into his death.

Neighbors tell News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2’s Lauren Coronado a father, whose known as a local ice cream man, and his son lived in the home together.

Some neighbors, including Leo Gutierrez, say the son appeared to be in his late 20’s and suffers from mental illness.

“Sometimes he came out naked and got in problems with all the neighbors, but I don’t know what really happened here,” Gutierrez said.

Investigators have been knocking on doors and questioning nearby residents about the people living in the home.

“He just wanted to know if I knew the man and I said, ‘I don’t know him personally, I just know of him’, but he seems to be a friendly guy,” John Gimm, a nearby resident, said.
