Viewer captures lightning palm tree fire on video

Thunder and lightning hit the valley early Tuesday morning.

A viewer, Kristina Bruno, sent us video showing three palm trees on fire in Cathedral City. It happened just after 1:00 Tuesday morning in the Century Park neighborhood.

No one was hurt. Fire crews put the fire out before it spread. Three trees were destroyed by the flames.

The lightning also caused some power outages. Power turned on around 5 a.m. in the area of Mesquite Avenue off Pierson Boulevard, but more than 1800 Southern California Edison customers were without power for a few hours. The outage was reported around 2:30 Tuesday morning due to weather conditions.

Also in Desert Hot Springs on Joseph Way — over 15- hundred people are with out power. This outage was reported around 2:20 and is also being blamed on weather conditions. Repair crews are working on this outage. No word this morning on when those repairs will be made.
