Man accused in La Quinta stabbing charged with attempted murder
8/9/17 Update: Attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon charges were filed Wednesday against a transient accused of stabbing a man multiple times in La Quinta.
Brandon Sean Williams, 32, was taken into custody at the scene of the stabbing, which occurred around 4:30 p.m. Friday in the 78200 block of Calle Tampico. The victim was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
A motive for the attack remained under investigation.
The stabbing led to a temporary lockdown of some buildings near the scene of the crime, including the La Quinta Public Library.
Williams, who’s being held at the Indio jail in lieu of $1 million bail, pleaded not guilty and will return to court Aug. 18 for a felony settlement conference.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has released new information surrounding a stabbing that took place at the La Quinta Public Library late Friday afternoon.
32-year-old Brandon Sean Williams, a transient, was arrested and booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio for assault with a deadly weapon and causing great bodily injury.
According to a release, on Friday, August 4 at 4:27 p.m., officers from the La Quinta Police Department responded to an assault with a deadly weapon in the 78200 block of Calle Tampico. Upon officers’ arrival, they located the victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Deputies believe the victim ran inside the nearby library after the incident. As a result, the library and other buildings near the scene were on lockdown as deputies investigated.
An eyewitness told KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 that the victim entered the library screaming and that he was followed in by the suspect. The witness said the suspect was taunting the victim and then calmly handed the knife over to librarians and waited for police to arrive.
