Original story

Two fire victims were being treated after being burned in a house fire Tuesday afternoon. KESQ and CBS Local 2 has learned one of the burn victims is an Indio police officer.

The fire broke out along the 44000 block of King Street near Miles Avenue just before 3:30 p.m.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire quickly but one of the burn victims was airlifted to the hospital with major injuries while the other sustained moderate injuries and was transported to the hospital via ambulance.

“Everyone was screaming, and the landlord son was like ‘Get out of your house! Get out of your house’ and the cops were like you need to evacuate right now,” said Michael Solas, a neighbor who lives in the apartment complex.Neighbors were allowed to return to their homes when fire crews had finished mopping up.

Our crew at the scene is working to get more details about the cause of the fire and the extent of the victim’s injuries. We’ll deliver updates as soon as they’re available.
