Portion of Avenue 46 to be closed for nearly a month

INDIO (CNS) – A portion of Avenue 46 will be closed for nearly a month as construction crews work on a sewer main, city officials said today.

The closure is set to begin Monday and will last through Sept. 8 between Madison Street and Clinton Street, according to city officials.

Motorists — and especially parents of students returning to nearby schools later this month — were advised to use alternate routes, such as Miles Avenue and Highway 111.

The construction is part of the Requa Sewer Project, an effort to install a four-mile long, gravity flow sewer pipeline from central Indio to the Valley Sanitary District’s Water Reclamation Facility.

Traffic control will be in place at the closure site around the clock, city officials said.
