Landscapers trade-in gas powered leaf blowers

The South Coast Air Quality Management District held a leaf blower exchange on Monday after Palm Springs voted to ban gas powered leaf blowers.

The city council voted last month to phase out gas blowers in favor of electric and battery powered leaf blowers. The council decided to steer away from a total leaf blower ban.

The exchange, held at Yoshi’s Lawnmower in Palm Springs saw a number of landscapers lining up to trade-in their gas powered leaf blowers.

The new ordinance will go into effect beginning Jan. 1, 2019 and is expected to have a positive environmental impact on the community thanks to reduced emissions from the battery-powered models.

Since 2006, the South Coast Air Quality Management District has sponsored an annual Leaf Blower Exchange Program available to commercial landscapers and gardeners throughout Southern California, at a discounted price.
