Thursday is National Thrift Shop Day
You’ve probably passed the colorful store on your way to Joshua Tree. The pastel tassels blowing in the wind and the unique murals catch drivers’ eyes as they pass by. But if you haven’t taken the time to stop by The End, you should.
“One of the things about the desert is its timeless. There’s so many amazing women who come in, of all ages, who shop here. Who wear really fabulous kimonos or caftans. I feel like there isn’t a dress code here, you can wear anything,” said owner Kime Buzzelli.
Buzzelli opened The End after deciding to move to the desert after a career as a costume designer.
“As a costume designer I’ve accrued a lot of clothes and it’s fun as I started to get rid of them and put everything in one space and curate a little shop,” Buzzelli said.
She tries to sell one-of-a-kind items created by local artists, many of whom are women. You can find items from all over the world at the store, some things coming from as far away as India.
Buzzelli said she loves the fact that there’s a day dedicated to thrift store shopping.
“The good thing about a lot of vintage clothes is they’re really well made, I mean they’ve lasted this long. Some of the clothes we’ve had have been from the ’30s,” Buzzelli said.
She said it’s always great to shop small and support local businesses.
