Coroner identifies motorist killed in Palm Springs traffic collision
A fiery single-vehicle crash in West Palm Springs on Sunday morning proved deadly.
It happened just before 7:45 on Highway 111, south of Tipton Road. The California Highway Patrol said a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado was traveling southbound when it veered off of the roadway and hit a concrete barrier. Police said it then burst into flames.
After the fire was out, around 8 a.m., firefighters discovered someone dead inside.
“We can tell by the physical evidence that it hit the rail we’re not sure if it was on fire at that point but it did wind up coasting down here where it came to a stop,” said Officer Steven Rivas, of the CHP.
Wednesday night, the Coroner’s office identified the person as 72-year-old Ernesto Carino of Palm Springs.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The CHP is investigating.
