People and pets gear up for solar eclipse
Folks across the country are getting ready for the “Great American Eclipse” Monday. It’s set to begin at 9:05 a.m.
But people aren’t the only ones watching the big show.
Doctors and scientists are warning people that looking at the eclipse without proper eye protection can cause permanent eye damage. But now some people are asking about the safety of their pets?
Marta Jara-Rueda, a vet tech at the Palm Springs Animal Shelter says you don’t have to worry about your furry friend. But she does recommend taking caution just in case.
“We all have a few dogs who like to bath and roll under the sun and put their face up to the sun. If you have on of those dogs, be safe and keep them inside. But most pets are smarter than we are and they don’t think squinting is going to keep them safe. They just don’t look into the sun,” said Jara-Rueda.
The eclipse is expected to be over by 11:45 Monday morning.
“Your pet may sense your nerves and your pet may react to what you’re doing. So if your pet is acting funny, it may be because you’re acting funny, so just keep that in mind,” said Jara-Rueda.
