Deputy Shoots Gun While Trying to Arrest Suspect

COACHELLA (CNS) – A Riverside County sheriff’s deputy early today opened fire while attempting to arrest a suspect, though no one was injured.

Deputies encountered Chad Lisenby, 35, of Coachella at a business in the 52100 block of Harrison Street at about 12:30 a.m. and determined he had three outstanding arrest warrants, said Sgt. Chris Willison.

When a deputy tried to take Lisenby into custody, he allegedly fled behind a business about a block north, according to Willison. When deputies found the suspect, he refused to surrender, and a deputy opened fire, Willison said.

It was unclear what prompted the deputy to shoot. Following the shooting, Lisenby cooperated with deputies and was arrested. Nobody was hurt by the gunfire, Willison said.

The unidentified deputy who opened fire will be placed on administrative leave, per department policy, according to Willison.
