Blood drive for victims of Hurricane Harvey

LifeStream Blood Bank will hold a blood drive on Wednesday in Palm Desert, where donors will receive free tickets to Wet ‘n’ Wild Palm Springs and a free Jack in the Box coupon.

The drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Walmart, 34500 Monterey Ave.

Donors will each receive a free ticket to Wet ‘n’ Wild Palm Springs, plus a coupon for a free Jack in the Box combo meal.

The blood bank is also especially looking for Group O blood and platelet donations following Hurricane Harvey, which has battered Southeast Texas for nearly a week.

LifeStream and other blood banks have been asked to collect more than usual to ensure that the affected areas have an adequate blood supply,at a time when blood drives in the area are likely to be cancelled and donor centers closed amid flood conditions.

Donors must be at least 15 years old, free of infections or illnesses, and weight at least 110 pounds. Parental consent is required for any donors under the age of 18. Donors also will receive a free “mini-physical” as part of the donation process.

Those between the ages of 18 and 44 may also register for a “Be The Match” bone marrow screening free of charge.
