CHP conducts school zone enforcement operation to improve pedestrian safety

The Indio California Highway Patrol conducted a a school zone enforcement operation on Tuesday near Xavier College Preparatory High School in Palm Desert, in an effort to improve pedestrian safety.

The operation focused on laws related to school zone and traffic safety as it applies to pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists within the school zone and surrounding roadways. As a result of this effort, 12 citations were issued, 2 warnings were issued, and a significant number of motorists were educated on the importance of traffic safety.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Another enforcement operation will be held on Thursday near James Monroe Elementary in Bermuda Dunes.
