Fitness center raises funds for team member’s newborn twin undergoing open heart surgery

A local family is finding support from their community gym after one of their newborn twins was born with a heart defect.

The fitness center, Fit in 42, in Palm Desert and La Quinta is hosting a fundraiser for the Daut family. One of their twins, baby Idris, was born without a valve that controls blood flow from the heart to the lungs. He recently came home after spending weeks in the Loma Linda NICU. But his time home will be cut short. He’s expected to be back in the hospital for open heart surgery in the next six weeks.

“When they first transferred our soon to Loma Linda, my daughter, the other twin, was still at the NICU in Palm Springs, and so everyday we were traveling back and forth to visit both of them. And after we got her released we were staying at my brother’s in Corona. And so my husband and I were taking turns visiting my son in the NICU beause we still have our other two daughters,” The Daut twin’s mom said.

Those interested in donating to the Dauts can donate at the Fit in 42 facility in Palm Desert.
