TRAFFIC ALERT: Jefferson construction road closure

Motorists were facing delays and being detoured away from the Jefferson Street Interchange Friday morning as construction crews worked to pave a stretch of Jefferson Street toward Indio Boulevard.

Southbound Jefferson Street was closed to all traffic at 6:00 a.m. from Varner Road to the intersection of Jefferson and Indio Boulevard.

That includes the stretch over the Jefferson Street interchange.

Northbound Jefferson Street lanes were set to close at 9:00 a.m. along the same stretch.

Both sides of the roadway were scheduled to reopen at 4:00 p.m.

Crews were set to pave the roadbed from the Union Pacific Rail Bridge to the intersection of Jefferson Street and Indio Boulevard.

Motorists can expect extra traffic backups on Washington Street and Monroe as drivers are forced to detour around the major traffic corridor.

Local representatives attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 17 to celebrate the interchange’s near completion.
