Police: Argument led to deadly Desert Hot Springs attack
Investigators say an argument led to the stabbing death of a 37-year-old man in Desert Hot Springs over the weekend.
Now, another man faces a murder charge.
Officers and paramedics found the victim, Edwin Carreto, after responding to reports of a stabbing in the 66500 block of Fourth Street. Police say when they arrived, Carreto had died from his injuries.
Detectives say they uncovered a connection between the victim and the suspect in the case, Joseph Arrez, 37, of Thousand Palms. “Armed with this information, the Desert Hot Springs Police Department quickly located, interviewed, and ultimately arrested Joseph Arrez,” police said in a statement.
Arrez pleaded not guilty and will return to the Larson Justice Center in Indio on Nov. 3 for a felony settlement conference. He was originally held without bail, but a judge set bail at $1.6 million following his arraignment on Wednesday.
He’s being at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.
