Local breweries host fundraiser to benefit young boy battling leukemia

Two local breweries teamed up to help raise money for an Indio boy battling cancer.

Isaiah Lopez is a 4-year-old boy who was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia about two years ago.

Babe’s Bar-B-Que and Brewhouse teamed up with the La Quinta brewing company to host a “Hops for Isaiah” fundraiser Saturday.

“We thought it was an excellent opportunity to support this family and this child, and have some fun,” Christine Cauvet, of Indio, said.

Jason St. John, the general manager at Babe’s Bar-B-Que and Brewhouse, said the turn out was great.

“We even had a man come in this morning, well before we opened. (He) came in, wanted to remain anonymous, but wrote $10,000 check, so it’s been a great day,” St. John said.

Tickets included lunch, two beers at three different brewery locations, plus shuttle services.

“It’s awesome to see people come together to support a family, and support the young boy with his treatments,” another supporter said.

Isaiah’s mother, Maria Lopez, said it has been a difficult journey, but the support from the community makes it easier.

Maria said Isaiah will be done with treatments by the end of 2018.
