Joshua Tree woman arrested for child cruelty

A 40-year-old Joshua Tree woman has been arrested for child cruelty.

Christalyn Swanson is accused of physically assaulting, and driving underage victims in a car, while she was intoxicated. The San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department said the allegations stem from a child neglect call they received around 6:45 p.m. on Friday in the 6300 block of Center Street in Joshua Tree.

Responding deputies said that Swanson refused to answer the door at a residence and that they were forced to enter through an unlocked window. Deputies were able to rescue the children inside, while Swanson remained uncooperative. Deputies said she exhibited obvious signs of intoxication.

An ensuing investigation revealed that Swanson had physically assaulted the victims while she was intoxicated and had driven a motor vehicle while under the influence with the children in the car. She was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail on $100-thousand bail. According to jail records, she is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

The SBSD said the children remain in protective custody.

Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to contact the Morongo Basin Station at 760-366-4175. Callers wishing to remain anonymous are urged to call the We-tip Hotline at 1-800-78-crime.
