Teal Pumpkin Project raising awareness of food allergies on Halloween

Million of kids across the country will be getting candy as they trick-or-treat this Halloween, but some of them won’t be able to enjoy them due to food allergies. The Teal Pumpkin Campaign is helping raise awareness about the allergies and encourages households to offer non-food treats for Halloween.

It’s being put on by the non-profit organization Food Allergy Research and Awareness.

The campaign promotes safety and inclusion for kids with food allergies and other dietary restrictions. It encourages households to paint a pumpkin teal outside of their doorstep to show non-food treats are available. This could include having Halloween themed puzzles, glow sticks, or pencils to give out.

According to the non-profit- one in 13 kids has a food allergy to ingredients such as peanuts or sesame- which can be life threatening when it comes to candy.

There are three places in the Coachella Valley that are participating in the campaign. You can find the full map of all the homes on their website here. You can also use the hashtag “Teal Pumpkin Project” to spread awareness on social media.
