Truck engulfed in flames following crash on State Route 62

A vehicle fire broke out just after 7 a.m.on State Route 62 west of Indian Avenue near Desert Hot Springs involving a blue truck.

According to California Highway Patrol, the truck was traveling eastbound on State Route 62 and side-swiped a car stopped during a red light at the intersection of State Route 62 and North Indian Canyon.

The truck hit a center divider then collided with a third car — a PT Cruiser — and caught fire.

No injuries were reported.

The parked PT Cruiser was abandoned at the time of the crash. No drug or alcohol is believed to be involved.

CHP said the driver of the pickup truck claimed fatigue.

Authorities closed off lanes for about 30 minutes, before clearing the scene.
