Twentynine Palms man arrested in attempted kidnapping of 14-year-old girl
A Twentynine Palms man is in custody after being accused of following a 14-year-old girl into her home and tried to kidnap her.
The attempted kidnapping happened on Oct. 19. The victim told San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputies that the suspect, Freddie Day, asked her for help to jump start a quad outside her Twentynine Palms Highway home.
The girl said she could not assist, and there was no one else at her home. She says the man walked away, and she went inside.
“As she entered her bedroom, she realized Day had entered her residence and was standing behind her,” investigators said in a news release.
Day told the teenager he “could have raped and killed her,” according to investigators. He then grabbed her and “bear hugged” her. She grabbed him by the throat, deputies said, “causing Day to release his grasp.”
The teen girl made it into the kitchen, where she got hold of a knife. The attacker fled, heading eastbound towards the desert.
Detectives with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department found Day at 4:30 p.m. in the Twentynine Palms area.
Day was taken into custody without incident and was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail.
