Two pedestrians struck in Twentynine Palms

Two men are recovering after they were hit by a vehicle in Twentynine Palms on Thursday evening.

The incident occurred at 9 p.m. near the intersection of Adobe Road and Samarkand Avenue.

Investigators with the Morongo Basin Station’s Major Accident Investigation Team said one pedestrian was under the influence of alcohol and was not walking in a crosswalk.

A second pedestrian tried helping the first pedestrian off the road when a vehicle driving north on Adobe Road at about 40 to 45 miles per hour struck both of them.

The driver immediately stopped to help the men and remained at the scene for emergency personnel to arrive.

The two men were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment and are listed in stable condition.

The driver’s vehicle sustained moderate damage from the collision and deputies determined the driver was not under the influence of alcohol and was released at the scene.
