Desert Empire League to debut for 2018 high school sports season

As we have known for some time, change is coming for high school sports in our valley. Starting in the Fall of 2018, there will be new leagues with the Desert Empire League and Desert Valley League.

The Desert Empire League will consist of 6 teams: Palm Desert, La Quinta, Palm Springs, Shadow Hills, Xavier Prep and newcomer Rancho Mirage.

The new Desert Valley League will consist of 7 teams: Coachella Valley, Desert Mirage, Desert Hot Springs, 29 Palms, Yucca Valley, Indio and Cathedral City.

Multiple coaches and athletic directors have said the league changes have been made to create a more competitive balance in the valley for all sports. The deal is in place for two years and will be reevaluated after that.
