The force and amount of water caused a sink hole. The driver was able to get out before the car started to sink.
The driver, Ross Berman, 37, of Palm Desert, was evaluated by Riverside County Fire, and taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Berman was arrested for driving while intoxicated and was booked into the Riverside County Jail in Banning.
