Two women arrested near Indio for smuggling almost $40K worth of meth
Two women traveling with a child were arrested following a traffic stop near the Indio-Coachella border that resulted in the seizure of nearly $40,000 worth of methamphetamine stashed inside a spare tire, authorities reported Tuesday.
The women were stopped about 11:30 p.m. Monday near Dillon Road and state Route 86 and were subsequently arrested by Border Patrol agents.
A police dog alerted agents to the undercarriage of the vehicle, a 2011 Jeep Patriot, where agents found 10 packages of meth hidden inside the spare, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials.
The packages, which were “tested and proved positive for the characteristics of methamphetamine,” totaled 11.4 pounds with an estimated street value of $39,900.
The women, whose names were withheld, were turned over to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department pending further investigation.
