Police looking for man who broke into car and stole a gift

Police are looking for a man who allegedly broke into a car and stole a gift that was hidden underneath one of the seats.

The theft happened at around 9:20 Monday morning at an apartment complex in Desert Hot Springs.

According to police, the man opened the unlocked car door and went underneath the seat to steal the gift.

Police are warning people as the holiday season approaches to be cautious of locking your car doors.

“They’re going to assume, especially at this time of year, that there is something valuable in the car,” said DHS PD Deputy Chief Jim Henson.”Try to leave the car as empty as possible, so that if someone looks in they’re not tempted to break into the car.”

If you have seen this man you are asked to call Desert Hot Springs Police Department at (760) 329-2904.
