This weekend: Indio International Tamale Festival
The Indio International Tamale Festival is back for another year this weekend.
The 26th annual festival takes place Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 3, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
A parade, rolling on through Old Town Indio, will kickoff the festival on Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
Attendees can try all types of tamales, from around 80 vendors this year, as well as shop from another 150 vendors selling arts, crafts and number of other items.
There are new additions to the festival, thanks to Tabasco. City of Indio officials announced that the hot sauce maker has signed on to be the “Flavor Sponsor” of the festival.
A best tamale contest, flavored by Tabasco sauce, will see vendors compete for cash prizes. The festival also announced a Tabasco flavoring station will be available at each beer garden.
“The addition of Tabasco to what is already one of the hottest events in Indio is truly exciting,” Mayor Elaine Holmes said. “Tabasco is just another example of companies and businesses that are recognizing the potential of growing their brands and increasing exposure for their products in the dynamic City of Festivals.”
The International Tamale Festival will have fun for the whole family, including a variety of musical performances.
Admission, parking and entertainment is free.
