Desert Hot Springs man arrested for possession of IED

Authorities released the name of a man arrested Saturday for allegedly being in possession of an improvised explosive device.

At around 4:30 PM, a deputy conducted a traffic stop in the area of Little Morongo Road & Dillon Road, in the area south of Desert Hot Springs. Deputies on scene alerted the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Hazardous Device Team about a suspicious device.

The Hazardous Device Team identified the suspicious device as an improvised explosive device. Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy Armando Munoz said the device was “similar to a pipe bomb.”

Norman Bell, 55, of Desert Hot Springs was arrested and booked into the Indio Riverside County jail for reckless possession of a destructive device.
