Update: Parolee fatally shot by Desert Hot Springs Police during domestic dispute
During a news conference, we have learned Desert Hot Springs police shot and killed a man after responding to a domestic violence call Tuesday night. Officers said the suspect pointed a handgun at them.
Police said they got a call around 9:15 p.m. of shots fired during a domestic disturbance on the 13400 block of Cielo Azul Way. The woman victim told officers her partner assaulted and shot several rounds at her during the altercation. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.
Police said the suspect returned a short time later where officers tried making contact with him. That’s when the suspect leaned out of the driver’s side window and pointed a handgun at police. Officers then fired at the suspect, killing him.

The suspect is being described as a 30-year-old white man from Hemet who was a parolee. The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment and has been released.
Desert Hot Springs police justified the shooting. The officers involving are OK; they have been placed on administrative leave as protocol.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and district attorney’s office are on scene and are conducting an investigation into the police-involving shooting. Desert Hot Springs police are also conducting their own investigation.
Chief Dale Mondary said at the press conference that domestic violence calls can be dangerous for officers.
