Pedestrian killed after hit-and-run collision along Interstate 10

A man is dead after a hit-and-run by a vehicle on Interstate 10 in Desert Hot Springs Tuesday morning.

California Highway Patrol said they received a call of a person lying on the right hand shoulder on the eastbound side of the highway east of Indian Canyon at around 5:13 a.m.

Officers believe the man may have been struck by a big rig. No vehicle was found at the scene.

Witnesses reported the male was stumbling close to the slow lane and then rolled up in a ball on the right shoulder, the CHP said.

A SIG Alert was issued, as officer shut down one lane while investigating the death. The lane was re-opened again at 8:21 a.m.

The identity of the victim is not known at this time.

Officers asked anyone with information on the crash was encouraged to call the Indio CHP office at (760) 772-5300.
