Small earthquake rattles Desert Hot Springs area

The U.S. Geological Survey reports that a 2.6 earthquake hit about 4 miles WNW of Desert Hot Springs shortly after 8:00 p.m. Friday.

The preliminary magnitude of 2.7 was lowered after it was reviewed by a seismologist.

The small earthquake was felt by people in the Coachella Valley, from Desert Hot Springs to La Quinta.

There are no reports of damage or injuries.
