Thief steals guide dog donation box from ice cream shop

Thief steals donation box from a local ice cream shop that would have gone to help train guide dogs.

The theft happened Monday evening at the Ben & Jerry’s at the River in Rancho Mirage.

The store’s manager told KESQ / CBS Local 2 that a man came into the shop, spoke for about 20 minutes, and then took off with their charity box for Guide Dogs of the Desert.

“Guide dogs are a great charity and we try to help people out when we can. For people to do something like this hurts, but what can you do? You just keep going, keep helping out people around the community, and see what we can do,” said Jason Ackley, manager at the Ben & Jerry’s.

The money would have gone to help train puppies to be heroes.
