Walmart Neighborhood Market opens in Indio

A new Walmart Neighborhood Market opened up Wednesday morning at the Heritage Court shopping center in Indio.

A 7 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony was held by city and Walmart officials, along with musical performances by the Shadow Hills High School Regional Band.

The 41,000-square-foot store, located on 44100 Jefferson St., features online grocery ordering with same-day pickup, and is described as a new prototype Neighborhood Market that only exists in a limited number of communities. The store is expected to employ around 100 full and part-time associates.

As part of the grand opening, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation is supporting Citizens Helping Indio Police, Coachella Valley Historical Society, County of Riverside – Office on Aging, GFWC Women’s Club of Indio, Indio Foursquare Church, Oak Grove Center, and Voices for Children with $8,000 in grants.
