Valley leaders turn out for Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Celebration

It was a celebration of diversity in Palm Springs Sunday afternoon at the annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Commemoration Celebration in Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church. The event was held to pay tribute to the accomplishments of the slain civil rights leader.

“We shall live in peace. We shall live in peace today,” sang the crowd, lead by local singer Keisha D.

Keynote speakers included former world boxing champion Timothy Bradley, Jr., and actor and former NFL star Fred ‘The Hammer’ Williamson.

“Please, please judge me by the content of my character and not by the color of my skin,” Williamson said, quoting King.

Leaders from across the Coachella Valley were also in attendance, including Palm Springs Mayor Robert Moon, La Quinta Mayor Linda Evans and Congressman Dr. Raul Ruiz.
