The turn-out at the ceremony was so great, it became a standing room only.

DHS Police Chief Dale Mondary said he was happy to see the support from the community and looks forward to getting the new officers on board.

“This is going to allow us to do some positive proactive programs to help us deal with our violent crime rate and other issues that are affecting us, traffic enforcement to name something. Those are some things we will be focusing on once we get those officers trained up,” Mondary said.

Two of the five officers sworn-in are Coachella Valley natives.

The addition of the new officers was made possible by tax dollars from Measures B and C, which were passed by Desert Hot Springs in November.
