All clear given after suspicious device found inside Skechers store

Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputies deemed a suspicious package safe Wednesday night inside a Skechers store.

Deputies did not reveal what exactly was inside. But a KESQ News Channel 3 / CBS Local 2 News crew on scene said it looked like pens and paper.

A Riverside County Sheriffs Department hazardous devices squad responded to a report of a suspicious package found inside the Palm Desert store, and a suspicious man, at 6:45 p.m.

The store is located along the 44400 block of Town Center Way.

According to Sheriff’s Deputies the man appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The suspect was arrested once police arrived.

Employees at the Skechers told KESQ & CBS Local 2 reporter Joe Galli a man came into the store and was being chased by a plainclothes police officer.

The suspect attempted to barricade himself inside the store office with an employee, but the officer was able to get the door open and the employee escaped unharmed.

All store employees were asked by police to evacuate when officers discovered the suspicious package.

The suspicious device was then found inside a box outside the store.

The bomb squad was then called to determine the nature of the device for precautionary purposes.
