LA man identified as suspect in Skechers scare

Authorities have identified the man who allegedly barricaded himself inside a Palm Desert Skechers store and left a suspicious device outside in the shopping center.

Palm Desert police responded to the scene around 6:45 p.m. after they received a call that a man who appeared under the influence of drugs or alcohol entered the business yelling and acting erratically.

Employees at the Skechers told KESQ & CBS Local 2 reporter Joe Galli a man came into the store and was being chased by an officer.

According to Riverside County Sheriff’s, it was a retired law enforcement officer who made entry into the room and was able to detain Campbell.

The retired officer was able to get the door open and the employee escaped unharmed.

During the investigation a suspicious device was found inside a bag belonging to Campbell.

A Riverside County Sheriff’s Department hazardous device squad was called in to investigate the device.

The device was determined to be safe and authorities deemed that the area was safe to the public.

Campbell was arrested and booked into the Riverside County jail in Indio, for false imprisonment and committing a felony while out on bail.
