Holocaust survivors & victims honored locally this weekend

It’s been 73 years since Jewish prisoners were liberated from the German concentration camp created during World War II.

Locally two ceremonies will be held to to honor the survivors and victims. The first one will be held at 1 PM at the Palm Desert Civic Center. Dignitaries, Rabbis and a holocaust survivors will be on hand to speak.

Local resident Rickie Taras and her father were the only survivors in their family. She spoke about the importance of the day.

“Us survivors are dwindling and once we’re gone no one else will be a real witness to what happened and so as long as I can, I will continue to speak,” Taras said.

This Sunday, the Annual Remembrance Day observance will be held at Palm Springs City Hall beginning at 11 AM.
