Pedestrian in critical condition after hit by vehicle in Coachella

A person is in critical condition at a local hospital after being hit by a vehicle in Coachella Saturday afternoon.

Deputies received a call around 3:15 p.m. about the incident on Harrison Street, south of Avenue 53.

Investigators said a Honda Accord was traveling southbound on Harrison Street, when it crossed northbound lanes and hit the pedestrian on the east sidewalk.

The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was immediately taken to a local hospital.

Authorities closed Harrison Street south of Avenue 53 for several hours while the incident was being investigated.

Deputies said alcohol or drugs do not to appear to have been a factor.
