Man accused of setting mother on fire identified

On Monday, the Indio Police Department (IPD) released the name of the 36-year-old man who allegedly set his mother on fire in the loading dock area of the Mathis Brothers in Indio. On January 26th at approximately 6:11 a.m., Israel Guardado Ramirez of Salt Lake City, Utah, was arrested on suspicion of setting a woman on fire. The victim later identified Ramirez as her son.

Ramirez is facing charges of attempted murder, arson, and torture. He is currently being held on $1 million bail in the Riverside County Jail. His next court date is on January 30th at 8:00 a.m. at the Larson Justice Center at 46200 Oasis St. in Indio.

The victim was transported to Arrowhead Burn Center in Colton in critical condition shortly after the incident. Good Samaritans nearby helped extinguish the flames. IPD is not releasing her identity at this time.
