Family ask for help in finding off leash dog who killed their Yorkie

A local family is asking for the public’s help in finding the owners of a dog who fatally attacked their five-year-old toy Yorkie in a Palm Desert park last week.

The attack happened Friday at Civic Center Park in Palm Desert. The owners of the Yorkie say an off-leash dog came out of nowhere and attacked her dog. They claim the owners of the other dog did not stop help stop the attack.

They were able to take a picture of them running away, leaving the Yorkie to die.

“They will pay for what they did. They ran away like cowards. Why do they have a dog without a leash, they could bite a kid, another dog, another person. I don’t know. These are dangerous people,” said Adolfo Gutierrez, one of the owners of the Yorkie.

According to the Riverside County Department of Animal Services, this situation would be a violation California’s leash law. In California, violating the leash law could result in a $1,000 fine. Animal Services is also looking at what could be a potentially dangerous dog, which may result in the offending dog being seized by animal control officers.

Animal Services officers are attempting to find any surveillance video that may help them track down the owner of the dog. Anyone if any information that could help are asked to call 760-343-3644.
