Former Cathedral City Councilmember involved in deadly collision

One person died in a collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle in Cathedral City.

It happened at Cathedral Canyon Dr. north of the wash shortly before 6 p.m. Monday.

Cathedral City police confirmed that former Cathedral City Councilmember Paul Marchand was the driver of the vehicle that struck the motorcycle. Marchand served two terms on the city council, from 2002 to 2010. Police believe the crash was caused because motorcyclist was driving too fast.

According to officers, after the impact, the motorcyclist flew more than 150 feet.

Cathedral Canyon was closed at Dinah Shore and Perez for a couple of hours. Police were encouraging drivers to stay away from the area.

Drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to have played a factor in the crash.
