Agua Caliente take first steps toward resort expansion
It’s not quite breaking ground, but it’s a very necessary step a ways before it. Today, the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians announced its plan to begin work on an Environmental Impact Report for a possible expansion of its Rancho Mirage resort, according to a news release.
The Tribal Environmental Impact Report will look in to the potential environmental effects of a plan which would involve expanding the gaming area by up to 58,000 square feet, meeting space by up to 41,000 square feet, commercial space by 120,000 square feet, and lodging space (in the form of 310 new hotel rooms) by up to 364,000 square feet.
“People travel from around the globe to visit the Coachella Valley,” Tribal Chairman Jeff L. Grubbe stated. “We offer the finest in casino-resort style entertainment right here in Rancho Mirage, and we are exploring several opportunities on how to expand this luxury destination experience. We have a lot of decisions to make, and we are at the beginning of that process.”
The expansion site will be within the parameters of Ramon Road, Bob Hope Drive, and the Union Pacific Railroad. The Tribe will collect comments and recommendations until March 2, 2018 regarding the “scope and contents” of the Report. This comes less than a week after the Tribe announced a massive land exchange with the Bureau of Land Management.
