A former Cabazon resident serving a prison sentence for fatally stabbing a man on Christmas Day 2008 in Riverside County has been identified as a suspect in the death of his cellmate at a Northern California lockup.
Todd Richard Laverty, 46, is accused in the death of fellow inmate Robert Dahl, who was found unresponsive about 2:15 p.m. Monday in the cell they shared at Mule Creek State Prison in Ione, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Dahl, 36, was taken to the prison medical unit and pronounced dead just before 3 p.m. The cause of his death was not disclosed.
Laverty was moved to Mule Creek’s prison’s Administrative Segregation Unit following Dahl’s death.
Laverty is serving an 18 year-to-life sentence for stabbing Noel Scott Adamczeski in the chest following an argument and fight just after midnight on Dec. 25, 2008, according to court documents. The 23-year-old victim died at a hospital.
Laverty was convicted of second-degree murder by a Riverside jury in October 2010 and began serving his sentence at Mule Creek the following month.
Dahl was serving a nearly 25-year sentence for second-degree robbery and firearm possession out of Sacramento County.
