Early morning Coachella house fire considered suspicious

Firefighters contained a fire in an unoccupied home early Thursday morning.

CalFire / Riverside County Firefighters were called to the 53000 block of Calle Camacho at 3:08 a.m. Thursday to reports of a residential structure fire.

The 1,200 square foot, single story, single-family home was well-involved in fire.

Nobody was hurt.

Neighbors and firefighters say the house was abandoned. Nobody lived there.

The fire spread to the home’s sub-flooring, making it difficult for the 23 firefighters to put out.

The fire was declared contained at 3:45 a.m.

Investigators had not yet determined the fire’s cause but said it was considered suspicious in nature.

Squatters had been a problem at the home and had broken into it several times, according to neighbors.

There was no immediate damage estimate provided.
