Man arrested for allegedly breaking into Beaumont home
A man who allegedly barged into a Beaumont home in full view of a police officer patrolling the neighborhood, then shut himself inside the residence while the homeowner was inside, was in custody today.
Travis Wayne Sangster, 25, of Banning, was arrested Wednesday morning on suspicion of burglary after police say he was seen running across Leland Avenue and hiding on the porch of a home.
An officer saw Sangster then run across the street again at 8:09 a.m. Wednesday “and begin pounding on the door of a second residence” in the 1500 block of Leland, according to a Beaumont Police Department news release.
The homeowner, who’d seen the patrol car in front of the home, opened the door, thinking the person knocking was a police officer.
Police say Sangster then burst inside and shut the door behind him.
The patrolling officer approached the door and “heard screaming coming from inside the home,” which was later determined to be Sangster allegedly yelling at the homeowner.
The officer entered the home and detained Sangster, while the homeowner “was shaken, but was uninjured,” according to police.
Sangster was being held at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning in lieu of $35,000 bail.
