Cathedral City police: swastika graffiti ‘not being investigated as hate crime’

A series of acts of vandalism in Cathedral City this weekend are “not being investigated as hate crimes,” according to a Cathedral City Police Department (CCPD) news release from Cmdr. Julio Luna. On Sunday at 8:50 a.m., CCPD officers responded to reports of graffiti on several vehicle and walls on the 27800 block of Avenida Maravilla in Cathedral City.

Some images depicted on said vandalized vehicles and walls were swastikas. Despite the presence of the hate symbols in the acts of vandalism, the news release states that the crimes appear to be “random with no specific individual being targeted.”

The graffiti in question has since been painted over. Anyone with additional information relating to these incidents is urged to contact the Cathedral City Police Department at (760)-770-0300.
