The number of flu-related deaths Riverside County this season has reached the highest number in five years.
According to Jose Arballo, public information officer for the Riverside County Department of Public Health, the number of flu-related deaths has reached 20 this season, the most in the past five years.
There have been 54 ICU cases
There were only two flu-related deaths in the county all of last year.
53 children have died so far across the United States and more than 14,000 people have been hospitalized.
Doctors still recommend getting your flu shot, as this year’s flu season can last until May.
San Diego County Public Health officer Dr. Wilma Wooten said, “The flu is still going strong
and we’re seeing an increase in influenza B cases which typically occur later
in the flu season. That is why it’s important that people continue getting
vaccinated and taking other preventive measures.”
