Indio restaurant set to reopen after fire

Update: Taqueria Allende Mexican food will remain closed through lunch, but will be shaken off the ash by mid-afternoon. The restaurant will reopen this afternoon at 3 p.m., according to an employee.

Riverside County Firefighters contained a roof fire at a commercial building in Indio early Tuesday morning.

Flames were first reported at Taqueria Allende Mexican Food in the Village Square Shopping Center at 2:37 a.m. along the 82,900-block of Avenue 44 at the southwest corner of Jackson Street.

First arriving found flames coming from the east corner of the building.

It took 25 firefighters a half hour to contain the flames to a 20-foot section of the roof. The fire was declared contained at 3:03 a.m.

There was no immediate word on the fire’s cause, but it was contained to the building’s roof.

No injuries were reported.
